I recently had the pleasure of helping bring Cally and Dan’s floral vision to life at the beautiful Millbridge Court, a restored 19th century house in the heart of Surrey countryside. As one of Millbridge Court’s recommended suppliers, I have the opportunity to design there frequently, which gives me a good understanding of what works well in that space. This allowed me to assist the couple in creating stunning floral décor to elevate their wedding day.
Keep reading to discover how we enhanced this gorgeous venue with modern, elegant wedding flowers and find some tips on how to repurpose your ceremony flowers during the reception to ensure they create maximum impact throughout the day.
WARM NEUTRAL, EARTHY WEDDING COLOUR PALETTE
During our initial conversation, the couple expressed that they envisioned a predominantly white and green colour palette, with a pop of another colour to create a classy look with an autumnal touch. I encouraged them to consider a slightly more complex and richer colour palette. This approach not only achieved the vibe they wanted but also made their colour scheme much more beautiful and interesting.
I intentionally selected stunning flowers in shades of white, green, beige, sand, soft peach, and brown. This combination added depth and created the elegant, timeless look they desired, along with a delicate autumnal feel. The couple was delighted with the results!
We designed with beautiful, fully opened Quicksand and Sand Dune roses, peach Lisianthus Alissa, apricot Matthiola, white Dahlia, textural Achillea, and Waxflower. We incorporated gorgeous, frilly Lisianthus Rosanne Terracotta, Crocosmia, and other beautiful floral elements to bring the vision to life.
MODERN, TEXTURAL, WARM NEUTRAL BOUQUETS AND BUTTONHOLES
Cally’s bouquet was crafted in our signature style. It featured a slightly unstructured design with colour-blocking, layered flowers that added depth and dimension. The bouquet was elegantly bound with delicate, long-hanging ribbons in three coordinating tones for a dramatic effect.
The bridesmaids’ bouquets were smaller versions of the bridal bouquet, designed in the same style and incorporating the same flowers and foliage elements.
We created matching buttonholes to complement the bouquets. They included peach and brown Lisianthus, a touch of foliage, textural Crocosmia, and delicate grasses, all bound with a thin, ivory ribbon.
MILLBRIDGE COURT CEREMONY FLOWERS
I absolutely adore the indoor ceremony space at Millbridge Court! It's beautiful, bright, and spacious, with huge windows offering stunning views of nature and creating a perfect backdrop for the ceremony. This gorgeous room serves as a blank canvas, allowing for endless creative possibilities. While I also love the charming arbour in the outdoor ceremony area, I would always choose the indoor space if given the option. This is because the outdoor setting has a lot of natural elements—like beautiful trees and plants—that can make our design feel less prominent. In contrast, the same design displayed indoors will stand out much more and create a greater impact. Cally and Dan felt the same way and decided to get married indoors from the get-go, regardless of what the weather would be like.
We enhanced the couple’s ceremony with a modern and elegant floral design. Minimalistic white plinths, adorned with stunning flowers in contemporary vessels, were placed on either side of the bride and groom, perfectly framing the ceremony. The varying heights of these arrangements created a modern, asymmetric look. The aisle was decorated with beautiful, untamed floral pieces with a slightly mismatched appearance, promoting a natural and organic feel. This design beautifully tied the entire ceremony area together.
MILLBRIDGE COURT RECEPTION FLOWERS
During the planning process, the couple and I discussed repurposing their ceremony flowers during the reception to allow them to create maximum impact throughout the day and help them make the most of their gorgeous flowers. I ensured all the elements designed for their ceremony would look great in both areas and transition seamlessly into the reception.
Cally and Dan’s top table was positioned in front of the large window in the reception room, creating a beautiful backdrop for them. Their tall ceremony plinths were moved to the corners of the room, elegantly framing their top table. The shorter plinth and the free-standing ceremony floral piece were repurposed as a stunning decoration for the seating plan.
We adorned the top table with beautiful, minimalistic, ribbed, ceramic bud vases in neutral shades, filled with the gorgeous variety of flowers we selected, creating a lovely pop of colour. I incorporated a touch of fruit into their table design, enriching the colour palette and creating more texture and interest. Minimalistic, modern, gold stem candlesticks with ivory and olive-green tapered candles completed the look and created a romantic ambience.
Cally and Dan’s aisle pieces were repurposed as centrepieces for their guests’ round tables, and I designed them specifically with this purpose in mind. They looked wonderful at the centre of the tables, and we completed the look with the same style candles used on top table.
THE OUTDOOR CEREMONY SPACE AT MILLBRIDGE COURT – THE ARBOUR
While Cally and Dan chose to have their wedding ceremony indoors, they took advantage of Millbridge Court’s beautiful outdoor ceremony space for their confetti moment and portraits. In these stunning images by Kit Myers, the picturesque Arbour provides the perfect backdrop for capturing and preserving these special moments forever. I love how these photos radiate so much love and joy.
WEDDING FLORIST TESTIMONIAL
Cally & Dan are one of the sweetest, most fun couples, and I truly loved every minute of working with them! I’m so happy they chose and trusted me with such an important part of their wedding day, and I’m so honoured to have helped create memories they will treasure forever. It seems the feeling is mutual! Here is what they shared about their experience of working with me:
‘I honestly can't put into words how much we appreciated Zuzanna throughout our wedding planning process.
I'd seen her work on Instagram and reached out immediately. As soon as we spoke on Zoom, I knew I wanted her to be a part of our special day - and that was even before she sent over her beautiful flower proposal!
Initially, I was veering towards just having 2 colours but thank goodness I didn't and listened to Zuzanna's expert advice on incorporating more colours. Looking back at the pictures now, I cannot believe these gorgeous florals were at my wedding. I was completely obsessed with my bouquet!!
Zuzanna is extremely talented and also one of the most kind-hearted people I met during the wedding planning process. I really felt like she cared so much for our day and wanted to make it a success too. I honestly couldn't recommend her enough. I feel very lucky and blessed that she played a part in our special day, and I can't wait to keep in touch and see more of her beautiful creations.’
